If you know me then you know that there are a few things that are automatically pathways to my heart...cupcakes, fresh flowers, queso, maragritas to name a few. But, the one obsession that tops them all is OFFICE SUPPLIES! I do not know what it is but there is just something about pens and notepads that just instantly makes me happy. A couple of weeks ago I finally ventured into the Robert Mason store in the Short North and let's just say that it is heaven in an alley! I could go on more about my not so short adventure in the store but I was already mocked on Snapchat for the "excessive" amount of time I spent at the pen bar so I will go back to the topic at hand...the hand lettering workshop by Robert Mason. Cocktails and the Art of Hand Lettering is a 2 hour experience curated by the guys and gals of the Robert Mason store. A ticket for the evening is $75 and includes:
The event was held at the Le Meridien Columbus, The Joseph with drinks from the Soul Bar. When you walk into the hotel lobby the tables, chairs, and hand lettering kits are all set out and waiting for you! Our workshop started promptly at 6:30 with an overview of hand lettering and the difference between it and calligraphy. We also got a walkthrough of our kit and a chance to order our first drink of the evening. The workshop is absolutely perfect if you've ever wanted to learn how to hand letter. You get a chance to work in a small group and get assistance with mastering (or in my case attempting) different styles and letters. Our guides were very personable and super supportive even as many resisted the commitment required when switching from using pencil to the very permanent pen. I would suggest this workshop for anyone looking to try their hand at hand lettering, you get everything you need to begin along with guidance on starting so by the time I left I was very confident about utilizing hand lettering for my 2016 Holiday Cards. During our workshop they also provided us with some blank cards and envelopes that we could use to create completely personalized holiday cards. While I am not that brave yet, I did save the stationary for a later date.
If you are interested in taking this workshop they are offering it again in January (tickets here). I also encourage you to visit the store in the Brickel Alley of the Short North, you may see me there once again lost in the wonder of the pen bar.
