Having a crock pot is a necessity if you want to savor home cooked meals but do not always have the time to stand at the stove for hours cooking. There are many times when I'm not sure what I would do if I didn't have my trusty crock pot working all day to have a delicious meal ready for me when I get home from work. This recipe is pretty easy and very tasty. Here goes.... Ingredients:
Directions: {Sauce} Mix the chicken broth, Teriyaki & soy sauces, brown sugar, and garlic together in a bowl. Set aside. {Chicken} Place the chicken across the bottom of the crock pot in an even layer. Add the mushrooms on top of the chicken layer. Sprinkle the garlic powder and salt over the chicken and mushrooms. Pour the sauce over the chicken and mushrooms. Place the lid on your crock pot and cook on low for 5-7 hours or on high for 2.5-3.5 hours. Serve over rice and enjoy!

As a proud gold card holder, I absolutely love Starbucks but sometimes I just do not feel like paying for Starbucks so I needed to figure out how to make one of my favorite drinks at home...a Chai Tea Latte. The thing is I needed it to taste like the ones I get at Starbucks so after some stalker-ish observation of my local barista as my drink was prepared I set out to duplicate the cup of love that is a Chai Tea Latte...here goes:
Ingredients:
Directions: Pour all ingredients into a shaker (my blender bottle comes in quite handy for this or if you have a cocktail shaker it will also work wonderfully). Shake until blended. If you want to enjoy your latte warm, pour the tea into your favorite mug or microwave safe cup and heat for 2 mins. If you want to enjoy your latte cold pour it over a cup of ice and you are ready to go. This recipe makes enough to fill a 14oz mug with a sidecar for a small refill. *The Tazo tea brand is owned by Starbucks. You can buy the cartons of concentrate in most grocery stores. I buy the three carton pack at Costco or Sam's Club. I have also found great sales on the product at Target. I am currently involved in a love affair with Thai Food and I have no problems with admitting it. Drunken noodles (or Pad Kee Mao) is an amazing, spicy stir fry dish made with wide rice noodles. I had some shrimp I needed to finish using before it went bad so I decided to try my hand at making this dish. Surprisingly it is fairly simple and pretty quick so here goes... Ingredients:
Yield: 4 servings Directions:
*depending on the noodles you get you may need to skip this step. I used authentic hard noodles from a specialty store which require a soak before boiling.Follow the directions for the noodles you purchase which should be on the back of the package.
ENJOY! Remember this is a spicy dish so feel free to adjust the pepper levels accordingly. You can also use chicken, beef, or tofu. Chef's choice. Biscuits are another guilty pleasure of mine and when cheese is also involved I just cannot say no. Instead of going out to get cheddar biscuits they are actually quite easy to make at home. This recipe takes about 15 minutes start to finish. Here we go! Ingredients:
Yield: 9 Biscuits Directions:
While the biscuits are baking stir together your melted butter, garlic powder, and the remaining 1/4 tsp of Old Bay. When the biscuits are finished brush the tops with the butter-garlic-Old Bay mixture.
ENJOY! Smoothies and green juice are very popular right now and the best part of the trend is that you can completely make it your own. I think the only real rule of smoothie making is to make sure you put as many of your favorite fruits and veggies together and hope that it tastes fantastic. In this case of this kitchen experiment, it tastes fantastic. This smoothie includes blackberries, apples, cherries, and spinach. Each of these fruits and veggies have their own health benefits, some of which can be found here: Blackberries Apples Cherries Spinach Now I'll walk you through how I made this delightful (and easy) breakfast drink. Ingredients: 1 handful of Blackberries (about 10-12) 1 small Apple, diced 1 handful of Cherries (about 10-12), sliced in half with pit removed 1 handful of Spinach 1/2 cup of Vanilla Almond Milk Directions:
Throw everything into the blender (add the milk last to avoid splashing) and blend until you get your desired consistency. Enjoy! Note: I reused a bottle from Native Cold Pressed. Their juices are awesome and I definitely suggest trying if you are in the Columbus, Ohio area. They are located in the Short North on High Street. You can bring in your old bottles for a discount or you can reuse them for many purposes (they are glass). |
